3 Minutes to a More Productive Problem Solving
One of the biggest wasters of productivity in any manager’s day is putting out fires or solving problems instead of working on ways to grow the business. Admittedly, this has to be done. But when problems present themselves in your professional or your personal life, take three minutes and practice what John Harricharan calls “The Power Pause”. At a conference I recently attended, John spoke on this during a brief stretch break. He said there are only three problems in the world: money, health, and relationships. If you think about this in your business, the same is true. You either have problems affecting your cash flow, problems affecting your employee’s attendance due to illnesses, problems affecting patient flow due to lack of illness, or problems between employees who have strained relationships. Whenever one of these problems presents itself, there are three things you can do to practice the Power Pause. 1. Break Focus Disconnect from the problem at hand and think about something else for one minute. 2. Experience the Outcome Take one minute to think about the outcome you’re hoping to achieve by solving the problem, and picture what that looks like. 3. Say Thank You Say thank you for having the ability to solve the problem and help others. By implementing The Power Pause into your day, you’ll find problems not so overwhelming.
